Radio Archaeology

Use of Aerial Photographs
Aerial photographs, even low resolution ones such as those available on the Multimap web site, reveal many features of radio sites.

In the example below (Decca Purple Slave site at Burton Fleming, East Yorks. you can see the shadow of the mast, whose base is in the centre of the guy support blocks. Next to the mast base is the coilhouse containing the matching coils- a standard feature of Decca sites. The coilhouse is fed by underground coaxial cables from the transmitter hall which is situated just off the road, with a parking space for vehicles.

The drawing on the right is a simple 3-d view of what we can see in the aerial photo.
